DYW Ayrshire Entrepreneurial Lunch Inspires the Next Generation of Business Leaders

On Tuesday 29th September, DYW Ayrshire was delighted to welcome pupils from 17 Ayrshire secondary schools, alongside local businesses and students from Ayrshire College, to our Entrepreneurial Lunch as part of Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce Business Week.

The event brought together young people and local entreprenerus to explore the world of entrepreneurship and hear first-hand about the journeys behind some of Ayrshire’s most successful businesses.

Pupils attended through DYW Ayrshire funding, with additional support provided through profits generated from ticket sales. This ensured young people from across Ayrshire could benefit from the experience, make valuable connections with local employers, and leave feeling inspired by some of the region’s leading entrepreneurs.

Guests were inspired by keynote speakers Jake Murray, Founder of Donnini Apartments, and Brandon van Rensburg, owner of Tempura and Spudbuds. Both speakers openly shared their entrepreneurial journeys, discussing the challenges, risks, achievements and lessons learned while building successful businesses in Ayrshire.

Through their stories, pupils gained valuable insight into entrepreneurship, leadership, resilience and innovation, while learning about the skills and mindset required to turn an idea into a thriving business. The event also highlighted the exciting range of opportunities available within the local business community and encouraged young people to consider entrepreneurship as a future career pathway.

The afternoon concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where pupils had the opportunity to ask questions, gain practical business advice and learn more about the realities of starting and growing a business.

The impact of the event was reflected in the feedback received from attending schools.

“I had the pleasure of attending the DYW Entrepreneurial Lunch with four of our S6 pupils, and we all came away feeling genuinely inspired. I’ve attended this event in previous years, but this was by far the best yet! The speakers from Spud Buds/Tempura and Donnini Apartments were engaging, down-to-earth and incredibly honest about the highs and lows of their journeys. Our pupils really connected with their stories and gained a valuable insight into what it takes to turn an idea into a successful business. A brilliant afternoon celebrating local success, ambition and entrepreneurship – we thoroughly enjoyed it!”
