Aerospace Careers Event Inspires Hundreds of Young People Across Ayrshire

Following the success of the International Ayr Show Festival of Flight, South Ayrshire Council, supported by DYW Ayrshire, was delighted to host the Aerospace Careers Event across two evenings on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September 2026 at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

The event showcased the exciting and diverse career opportunities available within the aviation and aerospace industries, giving young people and their parents/carers the chance to explore the many routes into the sector.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet leading employers and industry professionals from across the aerospace sector, including GE Aerospace, BAE Systems, Prestwick Aerosystems, Storm Aviation, Woodward, NATS, Collins Aerospace, Ryanair Engineering (PAML Ltd) and Ayrshire College. Through engaging conversations and interactive discussions, young people gained valuable insight into the wide range of careers available and the different pathways that can lead to a successful career in the industry.

Across the two evenings, more than 650 young people, parents and carers attended the event, with visitors travelling from across Ayrshire and as far as Glasgow. Feedback from attendees and employers was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating the strong interest in aerospace careers and the value of connecting young people with industry professionals.

One attendee commented:

“This was a fantastic event! Lots of companies represented. Having actual apprentices in attendance was a huge bonus, as we could ask them about their direct experience and route to where they are now. They were all a total credit to the companies they were representing. Each company had fliers and QR codes, which was extremely useful.”

A parent added:

“Everyone we spoke to was very approachable and seemed genuinely excited about their company and occupation. It was refreshing to hear that so many job opportunities were available. My son had a great night. Thank you for organising. Wish I could switch careers and join you.”
