Celebrating Women in Engineering at GE Aerospace Caledonian

“GE Aerospace Caledonian proudly hosted two inspiring Women in Engineering events on Friday, June 20th, and Monday, June 23rd, welcoming 60 S3 female pupils from seven secondary schools across North and South Ayrshire. These events aimed to ignite curiosity and passion for engineering among young women, showcasing the exciting opportunities available in the aerospace industry.

The day began with a warm site introduction, including a personal welcome from site leader Andy Prow, setting the tone for an engaging and memorable experience. Pupils embarked on a fascinating tour of the facility, observing the intricate processes involved in aero engine maintenance—disassembly, cleaning, inspection, reassembly, and testing in the on-site test cell.

During lunch, the pupils had the unique opportunity to connect with three female employees who shared their career journeys, offering inspiring advice and insights into the diverse roles available in engineering. Their stories opened minds and encouraged the pupils to envision themselves as future leaders in the field.

The day concluded with a hands-on Lean Lego Production activity, where pupils—and even their teachers—embraced the challenge of continuous improvement. The competitive spirit and teamwork demonstrated during the activity highlighted the potential of these young women to thrive in engineering environments.

It was an absolute pleasure to host these talented pupils and celebrate Women in Engineering Day, fostering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.Laura McEwan, MRO Senior Value Engineer
