Real-World Learning Takes Flight in S3 Travel and Tourism Challenge
“The Modern Languages Department at Belmont Academy partnered up with to hold the first ever “S3 Travel and Tourism Challenge”. In collaboration with DYW, Stewart Travel came in to present to S3 and describe what it’s like to be a travel agent. They also spoke about all the different careers and pathways available at Stewart Travel, described their own experiences and answered pupils’ questions. Then they set the challenge: choose a brief and plan a holiday, creating a poster and PowerPoint to be presented to their class, the winning group from each class then progressed to the final. This brief included the clients, budget, dates etc as well as planning an additional excursion.
During the final, pupils presented to their entire year group as well as a panel of judges including Stewart Travel representatives and the Head Teacher. The winners chosen were: Ioanna, Elise, Millie and Hannah – congratulations! They were presented with a trophy, some treats and a £25 gift card. Pupils really enjoyed exploring the cultural and travel side of Modern Languages in a real-life context and did a great job researching and presenting. So good that Stewart Travel has agreed to partner up again and make this an annual event!”
