The Frankie and Benny’s S2 Challenge has come to its end for another year with a well deserving winner in each of the local authorities.
The Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock restaurants asked schools to create a brand new pizza or pasta dish. The young people then formed teams within their classes with the best ideas being put forward to a regional semi-final. Here pupils had to pitch their dish to the judging panel who had creativity at the top of their criteria list.
The competition has been supported by the chain for many years with them providing all ingredients, generous prizes for the winners and closing the restaurants to the public while the finals are taking place. Sadly since the final in March the Irvine restaurant has closed its doors for the last time so it was great to have such a close competition this year.
The judging panel did eventually crown ‘The Macho Nacho Pizza’ from Ardrossan Academy as the 2019 winner which combined Mexican and Italian flavours to create a truly spectacular dish.
