Now in its 16th year, the Apprenticeship Community Challenge Ayrshire launched in February 2019.
Companies across Ayrshire were invited to put forward individual apprentices or a team of apprentices to plan, complete and document a project that would be of benefit to the local community.
This year 8 companies completed the challenge and were invited to attend a Semi-Final in September. All 8 teams presented their project and 3 winners were identified and put forward for the Overall Winner award:
– ASHLEIGH BUILDING – Best Presentation
– SAS INTERNATIONAL – Greatest Community Impact
– WALLACE MCDOWALL – Most Impact on Apprentice learning
SAS International were announced as the overall winner at the Ayrshire Chamber Business Awards on the 11th October at Ayr Racecourse. The winning project was the design, creation and installation of a WW1 memorial in Maybole.
‘This year has been one of the biggest and toughest challenges to judge with 8 teams making it through to the semi-final. The judges were blown away with the level of skill, professionalism and innovation that the apprentices showcased through their work. We are delighted as a Chamber to facilitate this Challenge as it works hand in hand with our Developing the Young Workforce Initiative. We thank all of the teams and their management for taking part; AMP Control, Collin’s Aerospace, DSM, James Frew Ltd, Spirit Aerosystems and of course our finalists.’ Val Russell CEO Ayrshire Chamber.
With thanks to Skills Development Scotland, Munro Architects and Indigo Black for their support in judging.
