#SmellsGoodFeelsGood – Work Experience at Mecoco

Mecoco is probably the most diverse workplace in the whole of Ayrshire if not Scotland. Louise Brown, Wax Wizard said “Disabled and non-disabled colleagues work together to make wonderful home fragrances including candles, wax melts and reed diffusers.  Our workforce includes people of all ages, including pupils from Lockhart Campus in Stevenson who attend in 4 week rotations to complete their work experience.

It is our great pleasure to welcome them into a space which is specially adapted to meet their needs – from staff who understand the challenges and barriers which people with additional support needs face and are able to communicate and support them fully to tools and processes which mean, no matter their ability, they are able to play a meaningful role in the production process.”

John Herd, DHT at Lockhart School agrees “For pupils with ASN, it is crucial to provide pathways that develop their skills, qualities, and experiences, while fostering their confidence and independence.

Strong partnerships are essential to achieving this, and our collaboration with Mecoco has been a remarkable success in supporting young people with ASN. Their work experience programme provides a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where pupils can thrive. The programme not only enhances their wellbeing, confidence, and communication skills but also raises aspirations and equips them with practical skills and experience. This has a profound impact on their personal growth and helps to prepare them for positive post-school destinations. Through this partnership, we are creating meaningful opportunities that empower our learners, helping them achieve success and raise their aspirations.”
